Rabbi Brenner J. Glickman is thrilled to be the senior rabbi of Temple Emanu-El in Sarasota!
After growing up in Los Angeles and Maine, Rabbi Glickman graduated with honors from Amherst College in Massachusetts. He completed his Rabbinic Studies at Hebrew Union College in Jerusalem and Cincinnati, earning a Master of Arts in Hebrew Letters and Rabbinic Ordination. During his years in seminary, he was honored for outstanding contributions to the community and writing excellence. Following ordination, Rabbi Glickman served for eight years in Houston, Texas, at Congregation Beth Israel, before coming to Sarasota in 2006.
Under Rabbi Glickman’s leadership, Temple Emanu-El is a warm, vibrant, and spiritual congregation. In his tenure, the temple has grown from 230 families to 600 families, becoming the fastest-growing congregation in the entire region. The temple has received national honors for its innovative programs, including its special outreach to Lakewood Ranch residents, interfaith couples, and young families. Reform Judaism magazine recently named Temple Emanu-El among the friendliest and most welcoming congregations in North America.
Rabbi Glickman’s warmth and approachability make everyone feel welcome. Rabbi Glickman teaches popular courses on Jewish subjects throughout the year. The electric Shabbat Alive! service attracts many hundreds of people from all over the city. Rabbi Glickman’s greatest passion, though, is pastoral care. He likes to spend his days visiting sick or homebound members and offering blessings.
Rabbi Glickman is also active in the greater community. He has served as president of the Sarasota-Manatee Rabbinical Association, and served on the board of the Jewish Federation. He is a longtime a leader of the All Faiths Food Bank, having chaired both the Capital Campaign and the Philanthropy Committee. Rabbi Glickman now serves on the American board of Leket – Israel’s national food bank.
Rabbi Glickman and his wife, Rabbi Elaine Rose Glickman, met during their rabbinic studies in Jerusalem. They are the proud parents of three kind, beautiful and brilliant children.
